Thanks Sadrul for the debug tips. However I am not trying to run this
on a regular linux desktop, but on an embedded development board.
I am not sure if I can build in the support for the function(s) you
suggest, but I will look into it.
For those who are curious, here is what I am trying to get Finch
to run on: (The final product will look cool I assure you)

This project went to the backburner for a bit, but I'll finish it soon. I
just need to buy a clue as to why my keyboard input isn't going through
ncurses to Finch.

.gntrc is not essential for running finch. It's possible to customize a
few things (eg. colors, key-bindings etc.) in finch by setting the
appropriate values in .gntrc, which should reside in the user's home
directory. 'man finch' includes details.
As to why the keys aren't working: can you please send the
output of 'infocmp -L' (or just 'infocmp')? Also, since you have the
source, can you cd to 'finch/libgnt/test', do a 'make', run './key',
press some keys (eg. alt+m, alt+a etc), and see what the outputs are?
(press ctrl+c to quit). Also do the same for './keys'.
