Go back and read that FAQ again. It asks if you can write FREE SOFTWARE 
that uses non-free libraries, not if you can write GPL'ed software. At 
the end of the answer to that FAQ it says, "Note that there may also be 
legal issues with combining certain non-free libraries with GPL-covered 
Free Software."
