This is the normal behavior.  If you are not seeing this, something is
wrong.  Someone else may know of a standing issue which causes this,
but I suspect that it is either 1) a Pidgin plugin which you have
loaded, or 2) your Gtk+ theme.

Try unloading all third-party plugins, and using the default Gtk+
theme, and see if this problem goes away.
