 apparently when first setting WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW you need to hide and show
 the window again (ShowWindow by itself works fine) in order for the
 taskbar button to disappear.  I'm sure you could find a solution more
 elegant than that, but it's worth seeing if it works (if you haven't
 already).

 I've actually already tried that without success; perhaps you can see
 something I'm missing in the code.
