 While I also think the simplification under a drop down for smileys was a
 wrong step, I am still of the mindset that Pidgin should also be using
 native keystroke shortcuts for each IM service.  While typing a chat, it
 is very user un-friendly to have to stop typing, engage mouse, find the
 insert drop down icon with a mouse, select smileys, and then find your
 emoticon.  I might be able to live with this insanity if I could get
 native support for a CTL-8, or CTL-Shift-6, etc... to place icons I
 already know from AIM.  Please look into this support.  I have seen a
 number of people over the last year requesting this fix.
