 The server admin had said: "The missing 255 numeric throws Pidgin off
 entirely. But I can't actually find the spec that says it must be there."

 She just found it: RFC 1459, Section 8.5.  Just in case anyone else has
 the same issue.  She's just fixed it.  Apparently loading m_conn_lusers.so
 does it.

 Hope that helps anyone else who still encounters this issue!
