 My original description was wrong. The real issue is that the ''buttons''
 go two steps (in either dialog) while the key-combos go one step at a
 time. I didn't think that the key combos worked in the prefs dialog but it
 turns out that they do if you focus the "sample text" box. This can be
 used as a workaround.
