Comment:

 I'm familiar with WiX.

 The current installer does more than just install Pidgin, it also installs
 GTK+ if necessary and downloads and installs spellchecking support and
 dictionaries.  I really do not want to maintain a complexed installer in
 several formats.

 There are various tools available that can wrap the executable installer
 in a MSI package.

 If there is a really compelling argument why this is inadequate, I'd be
 interested to hear it.
