 neok: I am going to ignore the fact that your mockup doesn't include the
 cached/saved section of the status selector, since I'm assuming you
 weren't suggesting that we remove that section.

 While such a mockup seems like a good idea, it means that the status
 selector stops being able to represent the current status state as soon as
 you hit one of the per-account submenu items (at least not without
 becoming incredibly more confusing to look at).

 A menu such as that also fails to scale to any more than a handful of
 accounts. There are people who already do not like how large the status
 dropdown is with the 13 items that it currently has, now imagine if you
 started adding 3-7 more items for connected accounts? Also realize that
 many people have significantly more IM accounts than that and you will see
 that it quickly fails to scale at all and would quickly become larger than
 the screen, would obscure the entire buddy list window, and would be an
 absolute nightmare to try to use.

 A menu like that would want to come out of some other location, either a
 menu in the menubar, a submenu of the Tools menu, an icon in the menutray
 area, etc. All of which a plugin would be better suited to adding.
