 In Pidgin terms:
 A "IM" is a conversation from one person to another.
 A "Chat" is a group conversation.

 The flashing preference applies only to the first scenario - there is a
 preference in the Windows Pidgin Options plugin that can be used to enable
 flashing for the second scenario.
