 2 things:

 1) just to make sure that this wasn't something funky with my company's
 firewall/squid/ISP, I checked when I got home last night and found the
 same problem.  So it definitely was an issue across the board.

 2) This morning the problem is gone.  I performed no
 updates/upgrades/config changes, etc but it just started working for all 6
 of us at work.  I can only assume that there was something wrong on the
 MSN side of things yesterday.  It's not at all clear to me why this didn't
 seem to affect a wide range of people yesterday.

 This ticket can be closed.
