 I'm able to duplicate this in pidgin 2.2.1 as distributed with Ubuntu
 Gutsy Gibbon (7.10).  I'd had this problem with one of the Pidgin builds
 distributed with Feisty as well, but it went away when I started using
 someone else's builds. So it's possible this bug is specific to the
 Ubuntu-provided build.
