 It's possible for a plugin to replace the ui_op, right? I doubt any of
 them actually do, but that's the policy that we've been following, and we
 have to draw a line somewhere...

 In this case, it's probably not _too_ bad to bend the rules a little, but
 I feel a little bad every time the rules are bent. How much next.major
 stuff do we have anyway? Would it be too bad to make it a 3.0 and call it
 a day?
