 I think I might have figured out what causes this. Last night I signed
 onto aim with my cellphone. Today when I logged into pidgin on my computer
 the mobile devices group reappeared with a random selection of users from
 my other groups added to it.  I removed the group, signed off, signed back
 in , and the group was still there, but now with 0 people in it. Removed
 it again, signed out, signed on the group is now gone.

 Logging into aim from http://wim2.aol.com/?service=Sprint3G where my
 Sprint phone sends me to login to aim at. Logging out, then login using
 pidgin. The Mobile Device group reappears with the same people in the
 group.
