 I searched scrnsaver.h and found it in
 /usr/openwin/share/include/X11/extensions/. The libs are still in
 /usr/openwin/libs, though. By exporting
 {{{
 export X11_LIBS="-L/usr/openwin/share/include/X11/extensions/
 -R/usr/openwin/share/include/X11/extensions/"
 export X11_CFLAGS=-I/usr/openwin/share/include/X11/extensions/
 }}}

 it seems to work. Pidgin says that it uses XScreenSaver in about, and
 preferences tab states that keyboard and mouse usage is used for away.

 So thank you very much for your help.
