#3121: Running X11 version over high latency network is painfully slow.

 Reporter: jlnance | Type: defect
   Status: new | Priority: minor
Component: pidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.2.0
 Keywords: X11 | Pending: 0
--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
Running the X11 (gtk) version of pidgin on one machine while utilizing an
X server on a remote machine is painfully slow if there is significant
latency in the network connection between the client and server machines.
For example, when at work, I would like to log into my home machine via
ssh, run pidgin on my home machine and forward the X connection back to
the work machine. This does actually work, but is so slow as to be
 completely useless.
In order to help debug this problem, I wrote the attached program which
delays X11 traffic. Documentation is in the programs comments, but
 basically you run it as:
 # xhost +localhost
 # xdelay -exec pidgin
Notice how difficult pidgin is with this amount of delay.
