 Hi,

 I'm not sure if others have found the same thing, but I have been
 searching the web high and low for an answer to this.

 I can use googletalk because I have signed up with google using my
 personal email address. That personal email address is NOT a gmail or
 googlemail account. However, I can't seem to get pidgin to work using my
 email address.
