 I have to date rejected requests to make the notification plugin use/set
 the DEMANDS_ATTENTION hint in protest of all the people writing window
 managers and desktop environments refusing to support the decades old
 urgency hint but jumping all over the essentially reinvented version of it
 in DEMANDS_ATTENTION. Seeing as how that is no longer largerly the case my
 protest is not really needed; that being said I still don't think that is
 needed in pidgin as any reasonable wm/de will support the urgent hint and
 any wm/de that wants to use demands_attention can promote from urgency
 (which is entirely reasonable and what I believe both Gnome and KDE in
 fact do). KDE used to have a bug in that promotion in that it would
 occasionally get stuck flashing even when urgency was removed, I don't
 know if it still does.

 Long story short, I don't think adding support for demands_attention is
 necessary and so I'm not going to do it. I'm not even sure I'd accept a
 patch for it. If KDE3/compiz isn't honoring it then something is wrong
 there and they should fix it. How does Gnome/compiz display the urgency
 notification? How are you expecting KDE3/compiz to display it?
