 I don't know if the cause is the same, but I'm using Pidgin 2.4.1 and some
 of my buddy icons aren't working either.

 Specifically, Y! buddy icons appear to work fine, but XMPP buddy icons
 don't. I can neither see anyone else's, nor can they see mine. Tried with
 PNGs, GIFs and JPGs. no luck.

 I'm not sure what else to tell you - if there is any more information I
 can  give, let me now!
