 While I agree that it would seem to make some sense to send the feature
 request stanza before joining the room I think the thing to realize is
 that the supported features reported don't affect the functioning of the
 room. That is you can join the room and talk in it even without querying
 for the features. The feature query just lets you save time and bandwidth
 by not sending extended presence or message features that the room is just
 going to strip out anyway. Contrast this with things like rooms that
 broadcast your real jid to all occupants for which a client could be set
 up to query first and allow the user to confirm is acceptable. And either
 way, the problem is not the order the problem is that the server/component
 is just deciding not to respond to the request.
