 Did you have other Google Talk connections that stayed alive when this one

 To answer that question, I ran Pidgin yesterday concurrently with the
 GTalk applet running in Firefox
 (http://talkgadget.google.com/talkgadget/popout).
 The Google applet didn't exhibit any connection drop, while the Pidgin
 connection failed and reconnected regularly, every 5 minutes or so.
