 As you were told this was an intentional change, not a by-product of
 fixing anything. #5017 was a bug that the automatic resizing changes
 caused, not the other way around. Closed discussion ticket for this #4986,
 open ticket with plugin to allow manual resizing #5296, pidgin fork which
 ships with that plugin [http://funpidgin.sf.net/ funpidgin].
