 pidgin doesn't use openssl, so the suggestion doesn't help exactly. It is
 entirely possible that we are not correctly setting up the ssl connection
 before attempting to use it though. Which ssl plugin is enabled in the
 Fedora 9 pidgin build (the About dialog should tell you)?
