 I did a little bit of testing with Mercury Messenger. It lets you select
 the protocol before letting you log on. You can select between MSNP11
 (stable), MSNP13 (unstable) and MSNP14 (experimental). With MSNP13 and
 MSNP14, I appear Online on a friends client. If I use MSNP11, I do not.

 Again, I am using Pidgin 2.4.0 and the version of Mercury Messenger I
 tested with is 1.9.
