 As much as this new feature annoys the hell out of me, I can see how it
 might be useful to people using small screens and/or low resolutions.

 In this light, it could be seen to enhance accessibility IFF it is made
 optional.

 It might even make sense to have the current implementation be enabled by
 default, and have the old functionality be an option.
