 To be fair the entire window isn't a click target for the input area, the
 entire window is a typing target for the input area, that is a large
 distinction. If clicking caused the focus cursor to move to the input area
 it would be largely more discoverable. (I haven't read anything beyond
 Sean's last post yet.)

 I would like everyone in this thread who posted in favor of reverting the
 change or adding an option to comment on whether being able to specify a
 minimum number of lines and allowing the area to expand to one half (or
 two thirds) of the history area would be an acceptable solution.
