 Apparently it doesn't only happen after a network hiccup. Also when new
 mail is received it adds the already showing messages to the number, so
 let's say with four messages in my inbox, Pidgin shows the twelve that I
 mentioned earlier, upon receiving one new message it now shows seventeen.
