 I'm sorry, but I misreported the problem.  The real problem is that I have
 only one tab open.  If I have multiple tabs, then it works as I expect.
 But if I have only one tab open, then I expected the buddy name at the top
 to turn green, and it doesn't.  The only typing indicator is the one in
 the conversation window, and that's harder to see.
