 There is a patch to revert input area sizing policy to the old
 (pidgin-2.3) manner.

 It adds a checkbox "Use old-style input area sizing" into "Conversation"
 page of
 "Prefrences" dialog.

 When unchecked, pidgin uses new input area sizing policy: input area
 height
 minimum of 2 lines, maximum 4 lines, and can be automatically resized
 while
 typing.

 When checked, input area can be resized as it were in pidgin versions
 prior to 2.4.0:
 user has a handle in a conversation and chat windows and may change input
 area height
 manually.
