 There are a number of reasons pidgin doesn't support this on linux, the
 first of which is that only 'recently' has there even be a standard for
 reserving space at all (let alone one that is commonly supported).
 Further, a number of X window managers are significantly more capable than
 Windows is of actually managing windows and as such are capable of doing
 this sort of docking and hiding themselves (which is a much better way to
 do it because then each application doesn't need the same code).
 It would be possible to have a plugin handle the docking parts of things,
 given a window manager that understands the protocol for it. Having a
 plugin handle auto-hiding is also possible. I would sooner see those
 created then add code to pidgin for it since I personally don't believe
 those features belong in applications most of the time.
