 Yeah - removing and re-adding buddies in AIM Express works fine and
 persists between logins, but Pidgin still doesn't sync with the server
 side list.

 > Can you try building pidgin from the source tarball on the pidgin site
 and seeing if that works?
 Have done so just now - no change. The debug log doesn't look any
 different either. :-(
