 after complaints of my sending garbled text to people when attempting to
 send a smiley, i did a test by sending an im to a friend using an official
 AIM 6 client. all of the smiley's in Smile! appear correctly except the
 "cry" icon. it appears as ":'(" in official AIM clients when the cry
 icon is clicked from the "Smile!" window; conversely, when ":'(" is typed
 in manually it appears fine.

 this applies to both 2.3.1 and 2.4.0
