Comment:

 pidgin does not currently allow, and has no intention of allowing if I
 have a say in it, the buddy list to be viewed grouplessly. Additional
 within-group sorting methods are addable by plugins (and have been addable
 by plugins since the sorting code was created). At the moment 1b and 3 are
 possible (including the one-key toggling of show offline buddies, see the
 FAQ for details). 2b should be easily doable in a plugin if someone sits
 down to do it. As for a keystroke to switch through them all in a cycle,
 I'm not really convinced that is necessary (why would you be switching so
 often?) but that should also be possible with a plugin without too much
 effort.
