 I agree that this should be fixed somehow - I personally do use the edit
 box sometimes, but mostly I use it go online or offline, so maybe it would
 be better to get rid of the automatic status box but have it pop up if you
 start typing while the status selector has focus.  If anyone knows what
 use a status message is when you're offline, I can't figure it out, so
 that's particularly annoying.
