stuporglue, this statement sums it up:

don't care if you're >having problems" is exactly the kind of attitude
which makes users of your software take to their heels.
I'm not saying I don't care about this "problem". Only, Pidgin wasn't
designed to be a text editor. If you're complaining about you can't code
in Pidgin, I would tell you to to use something else, and so would anyone
else. If you realy, really want to code in Pidgin, I suggest writing a
plugin that has all the features a modern text editor has.

Really, the only reason for going on with this discussion is that some of
the developers can't speak things out clear.
Things are like this:
* Some devs are in the mood telling you how you _have_ to use a IM
* They are pretty pleased doing this
* They notice that an appalling amount of users do not agree with _their_
_personal_ opinion about this but but they refuse to address the issue
* They defend _their_ opinions with "hot air" arguments
Look at the discussion. "Pidgin is not a text editor", "If you want this
feature build this plugin a pissed of user wrote on his own", "If you
don't like this change use another IM, we don't care"
That are not arguments that address the issue, this are only statements
that brings discussion away from it.
And if some guys are arguing such an behavior is okay because Pidgin is
licensed under GPL they are WRONG. Free software is not about forcing
other people to agree with their opinions. Maybe this people should follow
the discussions about FSF and GPL3 on the LKML more closely.
To get to the point: I really dislike such an ignorant behavior where
every sentence is just about defending an personal ideology (no objective
arguments at all) where in the end it just ruins many peoples day.
