Comment:

 I am using the default Windows firewall and E-Trust antivirus, neither of
 which poses a problem for the MSN messenger client itself.  I turned off
 the former and shut down the services for the later, and I still had not
 luck.  Again, the problem did not exist in the previous version of Pidgin
 that I was using this morning.
