New description:

 Contacts added to the buddy list will appear online only for that session;
 once Pidgin is restarted, they appear offline again

Comment:

 If you're still having the hangs, please file a separate bug report. I've
 removed everything bug the buddy list bug from the description.

 My Zephyr contact says, regarding the buddy list bug, "create a file
 called .anyone on local disk (and) add things to it, or subtract them, as
 needed". Presumably, he's saying that libpurple's Zephyr PRPL should be
 doing this. I'm not going to implement this, so I'm marking it patches
 welcome.
