Comment:

 This is an 'issue' I've run across before, we used to have code in place
 to inform the Google Talk servers that we are willing to accept a
 different domain then the one we started with, that code seems to only
 have made it into one of the pieces of authentication code, that section
 of code is no longer used by default anywhere (it used to be on Windows).

 If you look at the <auth/> stanzas in the two debug logs you will see that
 the 2.2.2 stanza contains some attributes not in the 2.5.1 stanza, I
 believe that to have been your problem.
