 I'm not sure I'm following you. When you say the protocol does not deliver
 presence information, do you mean what I propose isn't technically
 possible? Or am I misunderstanding?

 What do you mean when you say the tooltip does not scale well enough?
 What's the problem, exactly? As for the useful actions you mention, could
 you please give some examples?
