 I've also started having this problem in Windows XP with pidgin 2.5.5 over
 the last couple days.  The ipconfig /dnsflush seems to work, though it's
 not a permanent fix and sometimes you have to do it a few times before it
 works.  I don't seem to notice this problem while in Ubuntu, but I can't
 remember the exact version of pidgin being used there at this time.
