 No, I've tried this in two different environments on two different
 computers; GNOME and Awesome. I tried it on two different terminals
 (Terminator and gnome-terminal) in which foreign letters ''do'' work when
 I'm not using Finch.

 I don't know why this doesn't work, I just assumed that it was a problem
 with Finch. I thought that the problem might be that Finch switches to an
 american keyboard layout but that wasn't the case. E.g. when I press 'þ' I
 get a tilde (~).
