Comment:

 Sort by groups can get you sorting by account if your group names are not
 duplicated across accounts. Similarly pidgin supports "filtering" of
 offline buddies by toggling the Buddies->Show->Offline Buddies setting.

 The [http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/ThirdPartyPlugins#Interfacetweaks
 Extended Buddy List Sort] plugin adds some additional in-group sorting
 methods which may or may not be of use to you (it doesn't appear to add a
 By Account sorting method, but it could likely be made to do so).
