 Sorry to bring this back up, but it seemed to be ignored.

 Recently I deleted a whole group of people on my contact list on gmail. I
 mistakenly deleted all the contacts in a group on my gmail instead of just
 removing them from that group.
 I've added them back, but now pidgin just shows their emails.
 If I right click->Get info, they are updated with their correct alias, but
 as soon as I close pidgin, it forgets their alias and I get half of my
 contact list with emails instead os nick names.

 Shouldn't pidgin check the users alias/nick name when they log in?

 Like I said in my previous comment, the same happens with my own contact.
 I've added myself to my contact list and every time I start pidgin I have
 to right-click->get info to my contact, so that I don't have to see
 "(time) myusername at gmail/whatever says:" instead of "(time) VuDu says:".
