 As of 2.5.3, I do still have to patch out the deprecated interfaces. The
 bulk of the patch being the need to remove gtk_item_factory:

 I understand you need to keep compatibility with old versions of gtk on
 some platforms, so I guess I'll have to continue to maintain the LSB patch
 for now.
