Comment:

 It doesn't crash. It just complains, breaks into the debugger with SIGTRAP
 and if you continue the execution in the debugger it's fine. It's also not
 related to protocol switching it seems. It had like 10 heap errors since I
 started Pidgin and wasn't switching protocols. Unfortunately I haven't
 been able to find a way to reproduce it, but just starting Pidgin in gdb
 and do everyday work with it should surely trigger it.
