 I agree that a plugin would be a suitable answer.

 I know some C, but do not know much about Pidgin plugin development. I
 recently started reading through the plugin tutorials, but I know little
 compared to the other developers on here.

 If someone with more experience is willing to collaborate with me, I would
 be more than willing to work on a plugin. I really want to get the ball
 rolling on this feature.

 Any takers?
