Comment:

 I confirmed. Both of us are using Arial Unicode MS. We've verified that
 the characters exist in the font. As per the attached screenshot, if I
 type some Devanagari characters, they show up in my message area. they
 also show up properly in my friend's chat window. However, if he types
 Devanagari characters (or even if he just copies and pastes back the
 message I sent him), they show up corrupted in my message area.
