Comment:

 I know of no application that possesses a confirmation dialog for an
 action like this. I will grant you that I believe giving that action a
 default binding is a bad idea, I will further grant that having the clear
 and save items next to one another is sub-optimal, I will even further
 note that I think the wording of 'Save as' and 'Clear scrollback' is oddly
 lacking in parallelism.

 I think separating the items is reasonable, I think removing the default
 binding is reasonable, I think reworking the wording is ideal, but I think
 adding a confirmation dialog is excessive. I think a patch which allowed
 for the action to be undone (perhaps ideally with a timeout) would be
 acceptable though.

 One of the reasons I think this is less dire of a situation than you have
 made out is that this is not at all an issue for anyone who uses the
 logging functionality, even if those people delete their logs
 periodically.
