Good morning gentleman,
I've come to rely on pidgin as my primary IM application @ home, work &
on the go. As a result I am enormously grateful for it. After careful
consideration, deliberation and consultation with other Pidgin users. I've
concluded on a single suggestion that would greatly improve the UI
interface as well as a couple suggestions that would be great as plugins,
which will be posted as separate tickets.
While the buddy list doesn't need much improvement. I feel there should
be a way to consolidate more then just protocol specific information into
my contacts list. It would be a great new feature if I could create a new
entry in my contacts list, where I could expand fields and enter details.
Such as First Name, Last Name, Nick name, Birth day, Home Address, Work
Address, Phone Number, Cell Phone Number and most importantly an eMail
address.
This would require some new method of contacts management, I'd imagine.
Though it could be as simple as having one required field like Nick name
and a pull down menu for choosing user created fields, [address] [work
phone] [cell phone] etc, with an [add new] choice. For each new detail the
user could click a [+] or [add more] button and the contact would expand a
new open ended field.
I envision the entered data appearing in two columns of plain text, with
the Nick name at the top followed by the assorted fields, which include
all their protocols; ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, MSN, G-talk, eMail, etc and other
categories; Address (Street, Town, State, Zip), Phone numbers, Web Site,
FA, LJ, Birth Day, Notes, etc. Each with an option to edit or delete, as a
right click contextual menu or just a small [edit] link.
Finally and possibly most importantly, pidgin could include just one new
protocol, allowing sending eMails out to buddies using the same interface
as sending an instant message, also reading them would be a bonus!
Thank you for your consideration, keep me in the loop, Onca
