 No, slackware does not maintain gstreamer, but in general, it's a good
 idea to filter bugs through your specific distribution (and the
 distribution maintainers) so that 1) they have a sense of issues that are
 going on with their packages and 2) they may be better able to say "oh,
 this is issue <x> which has already been upstreamed" or "Oh, here's how to
 fix it, it's a miscnofiguration on your computer" or "Oh, it's actually
 Pidgin's fault" (in which case, hopefully someone will tell us).

 In .purple/prefs.xml, try changing
 {{{ <pref name='method' type='string' value='automatic'/> }}}
 to
 {{{ <pref name='method' type='string' value='none'/> }}}
